  7. MAGNA X is a UNIX-based OLTP application generator for use by MIS
  8. organizations with proprietary mainframes. The product design facilitates the
  9. integration of UNIX and Open Systems with existing mainframe databases and
  10. applications.

  12. The assumed environment for MAGNA X includes desktop PCs running Windows,
  13. networked UNIX servers and various mainframes, all interconnected. the
  14. developers use the PC to graphically specify an application. Development
  15. teams, working at their PCs, use a LAN to access a shared work group
  16. dictionary on a UNIX server. The generated UNIX applications execute across
  17. distributed UNIX platforms and run cooperatively with mainframes using various
  18. CP1-C protocols.

  20. The focus of MAGNA X is on the creation of OLTP applications. MAGNA X supports
  21. Tuxedo, and other TP monitors (e.g., Encina, Top End, CICS) are feasible
  22. extensions. Transactions can originate from a variety of sources, including
  23. dumb terminals, intelligent workstations, cooperating TP applications, etc.
